The hotel was established in 1965 and inaugurated on 25 November 1966, making it one of Nepal's first five-star hotels. Originally featuring 104 rooms, the property has expanded to about 282 guest rooms and seven VVIP suites across roughly 12 acres. Long operated under the InterContinental Hotels Group as Soaltee Crowne Plaza, the property has since been rebranded as The Soaltee Kathmandu (Autograph Collection), and includes conference facilities and a casino complex.
